Minister to Students
With a focus on family and a firm belief in Jesus, Kyle Smith discovered his calling while pursuing an education degree his freshman year in college. Though convinced he would be a math teacher and basketball coach, he realized while serving as a student ministry teacher that he loved the experience and in 2004 graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a degree in Youth Ministry.
As the current Minister to Students, Kyle is responsible for the 6th through 12th grade students. Our three main goals are to teach students
- to love God,
- love people,
- and make disciples in a very practical way.
His students “are at a critical time in their lives, finding out who they are and what they want to be. I get to point them to Jesus. That’s pretty cool.”
Personally, he continues to learn obedience from God as “obedience shows love for Him.” The best part of Kyle’s life is spending time at home with his family. When asked what makes him laugh, he easily responds his wife, his kids, and Twitter!
Some of his all-time favorites include Sooner football, Thunder basketball, golfing with his dad, pizza, and chocolate chip cookies. His two favorite books are Deep and Wide by Andy Stanley - it puts the right perspective on ministry - and Simple Church by Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger - it helps to focus on what is important.
In finding that one Bible verse that speaks of God’s love and His purpose for Kyle, he chose:
Since You are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of Your Name lead and guide me.
